about

Mostly it is up to the listener to interpret or perceive my songs, but as a Vermonter who is releasing a song called "Secession," I might get a bit of a backlash. So instead of getting into the complications of Vermont leaving the union, this song is about something else, something universal. "Secession" has everything to do with departing from the confines of the status quo, the game, the illusion, or the matrix . . . whatever you want to call it. Or more specifically, to not engage in anything that limits our own potential and leave behind the mitigating crap that blocks the truth from being delivered.

Musically, the song moves around a bunch. It is a busy number with several instruments occupying the soundscape. It was written with a baritone guitar, and I added acoustic and electric guitar to provide a counter rhythm. Some lead guitar licks and Rhodes piano color and fill in any remaining spaces. The bass and drums kinda hold down the fort. The falsetto vocals doubling the choruses and the choir-like backing vocals provide an otherworldly quality. It's a bit of a ride and I hope you enjoy it.
