about

Here is what I hope becomes a very large catalogue of completely live material. I have played countless “guerrilla gigs” over these many years, some of them were captured in the unlikeliest of places and circumstances. I guess that sometimes wallowing through obscurity has its advantages because, well...weird places can make you play in weird ways. Which, to me, is a boon.

I asked Matt Lillie, my sound engineer for several years now, to pick some live tracks that might sum up what the band sound like these days, maybe even score some gigs if the shit was good enough. What he ended up bringing to the table was pretty revealing to me. When in the throes of a set I am not usually conscious of what is being captured. I am too busy searching for connection in the sea of tone and rhythm while hanging on by the skin of my teeth. Needless to say, there are some nice surprises here. Sure there are some moments of “Heaven and Hell;" we are human, of course. If you want “slicker” versions of these songs they are all available on various records I have put out over the years. Please buy them! But what we have here is a few guys playing their asses off with spiritual precision and reckless abandon. It didn’t matter if it was a small town square, a dance in a century old grange hall or sloppy pig roast off the grid, deep in the woods or some field, or whether there were twelve people there or a thousand….Nothing was phoned in or fixed. Matt mixed these songs the same way he mixed ‘em in battle so they are accurate, sometimes painfully, but there is also magic that could never be duplicated. More to come….
